Now that the danger had passed, the man—and the bear—was having a difficult time giving her the space she needed.

Oh Quinn!

I honestly don't think this book was really needed. Not that I didnt like it but I think it could have been added to Blind Date easily. I guess authors do this to make money. Maybe she did it to lead into Bear and Bear Alike who knows. Anyways, I loved it. Duh...she's human of course she wants to get married! LOL. Quinn can be thick sometimes! He forgets she is human and has human feelings and wants and desires. Pretty sad his brothers and father had to slap him upside the head...so to speak to get him to "click" on whats wrong with his mate. Although...she should have told him! I do let her off the hook though because not like he would let her when he was always too busy mating her. LOL.

Bear shifter love

This was a fun read. Paige is a believable character and i was rooting for her right through the story. The idea that big girls can find love too is a really nice twist. The love scenes were hot, and Marie Masson writes stories that are engaging and fun.

I am loving this series by Marie Mason!! In this book, it shows what happens with our first couple, Quinn and Paige. It's short but oh so sweet! I can't wait for the twin's story!

Great way to learn piano

I took classical piano lessons growing up, which is a very rote way to learn. I didn't particularly like it and I didn't particularly get good at understanding music -- I got good at fingering specific pieces.

I would have, in retrospect, preferred the method of learning and understanding the chords so I could pick up pieces on my own. The idea of "fake" books is to improvise the harmony based on the chords and play the to melody line along with it. By learning the chords and some ways of stringing them together, you can master just about anything.

It's not that simple -- it's a lot of practice to be able to turn chords on the sheet into realtime music. But it's a lot of fun, and I actually "get it" now on how music is put together.

This book in particular is well written, bringing you quickly to understand how to do this. It assumes basic ability to read music. And it is slightly corny in parts. But aside from that, its a nice self-paced tutorial into playing from "fake" books or other sheet music that includes chord information.

I am an adult piano player, with several intermittent years of lessons and years of trying to move forward on my own. Still, I play at an intermediate level, at best. For years I have been frustrated because as hard as I would work at a piano piece...if I stopped practicing it, my efforts would quickly fall apart. A year ago, I bought a simple 'how-to' book to learn to play from a fake book and I also bought a large 'Fake Book' of songs. From that, I began to learn the various chords. Over a few months, my playing improved, but the 'how-to' book wasn't complete enough to improve 'the sound'. My left hand accompaniment was boring.

This book--"How to Play From A Fake Book"--is terrific! After just a very few weeks, I am noticing definite improvement. There are lots of examples, written explanations and variations in the book. Step by small step, it is leading me toward really being able to play a huge variety of music from fake books--with some style and grace. My playing has taken a giant leap forward!

The 100+ songs that are included in the book are familiar, and the melodies are simple enough to really try out and work with the various techniques that are outlined in the book. My only complaint about the book is the format. As a 'regularly bound' paperback book, it is difficult to keep open on the piano. I wish it were in a spiral-bound format.

This is a great book! It's well written and easy to understand. It gives a good introduction to some basic music theory as well as presenting the tools needed for improvisation, which is bascially what playing from a Fake book is: taking a written melody with chord symbols and putting it together with an accompaniment arrangement that you create! If you're looking to learn about playing from chords, or creating piano arrangements, or an introduction to jazz theory; this is a great place to start.

a very interesting study of classical hollywood

I love old movies. They have some kind of magic that sadly I can't find in movies today. What this book does is to study the classical years- The classical narrative and how the system, style and people made together these classical movies. The starting point of this book is that almost all of the movies from 1917 to 1960 have the same elements, the same style- the style that today we all referring to when we think of hollywood- the way the story goes, the technical making (filming, editing) that tries to stay unseen and more. The authors choose 100 films from these years,almost all of them are not famous ones or films that made special impact, but films that were made out of the system. Out of these films they show the reader how the hollywood style make us blind to the technical elements and to the similarity of them- because although the norms changed all the time by films that broke the old norms- they all have similar basis. This book is very interesting and I recommend it to everyone who wants to learn more about classical hollywood from the films themselves. The only complaint I have (and it's refering to the edition I read, which is from 1985)) is that the pages are divided to columns and it makes the reading a little uneasy, but still worth the reading.

Probably the only book of this sort; ambitious as it is informative, well written and wide in the scope of research; a true classic in the field of cinema history...
Obligatory reading for all who want to understand, study or write about American cinema; BOTH classical and contemporary, the book is also useful to other students of cinema...

lots of great quotes, brilliant material

This could have been a superb biography of Reed. Access to friends and enemies, lots of great quotes, brilliant material. But overall, disappointing. The writing was a little clunky, but the main objection I had was Sounes' overtly judgemental voice. I came away from this book thinking: "you really didn't like him". I would expect some opinion, of course, but a more objective view from a biographer. Let the interviews speak for themselves. Use the material to portray a complex and, yes, difficult and sometimes (arguably) nasty person, whose creativity, talent and output made him more than a bad-tempered speed freak from Long Island. This could have been a thoughtful exploration of the creative demons, but it fell short. And the superficial dismissal of Laurie Anderson as the girlfriend, then wife? An unfair portrayal of an important artist in her own right.

Get to know the man who made the music

This book is both outstanding and not enough, what do I mean by that? This book will introduce you to almost all aspects of the life of Lou Reed as a man. Whom he loved, the way he was, the drugs he took. It will provide you with a great understanding of what happened where to whom and more or less why. So if you are curious to learn more about the man, this is a great book which is engaging and witty. However, it lacks any serious discussion of the music of Lou Reed. So it's a little like reading a biography of Lucian Frieud which almost doesn't deal with his paintings. I don't know why that is but this should not be a reason not to buy and read the book. If you love the music, you already know why you love the music. This is just to know the man who made it.

Realistic Characters

A Husband's Duty centers around two sisters, Jessica and Beth. They used to be close growing up, but have had a falling out and hardly speak to each other anymore. The story gives you a glimpse inside the marriage of Jessica and her husband Jonathon, as well as the relationship between Beth and her fiance Zach.

I liked that the book delved into the conflict between the two sisters and how it also affected the relationships between them and their significant others. Jessica will not tell Jonathon why she is no longer speaking to her sister, brushing it off as something that happened so far in the past that she doesn't wish to address it. This causes a rift between them and tension in their marriage, especially when Jonathon invites Beth and Zach for dinner.

I thought the book was really well written with likable and believable characters. The author did a good job of demonstrating the love each sister had for the man in her life, she also portrayed the hurt and the anguish between the sisters very realistically. At first, when you find out what caused the initial tension between Jessica and Beth it seems silly, but then you realize it has more to do with the way they have treated each other over the years than this one isolated incident.

And of course this is a spanking romance, so mixed in with the sister anguish and lover's quarrels is some good spanking action. Jessica and Jonathon are practicing Domestic Discipline in their marriage and Beth and Zach are toying with the idea of introducing it into their relationship after learning about what it is. I thought the author wrote the character's perspectives on DD in an honest way.

I give A Husband's Duty four stars. It's a light, quick read with some interesting characters.

Each new book of Dinah McLeod is better than the one before. It really is. This book is about two sisters. With a past that kept them apart. It takes a natural born storyteller like Dinah McLeod to make us feel the palpable tension between them and the way their man react to that. It is probably Dinah Mc Leods hottest book ever, and those of you who spend a lot of money on shoes: be warned of the consequences! If you wonder what Domestic Discipline is all about, please read A Husbands Duty.

This story follows Beth and Jessica; two sisters with a broken past. It is a five year grudge that has gone on long enough. Jessica's husband, Jonathon invites Beth and her Fiance, Zach over for dinner. Jessica puts Beth in tears and is disrespectful to Jonathon.

Jessica is holding a childish grudge against her twin sister Beth. She has always struggled to find her own identity. Constantly compared to Beth. Jonathon and her are involved in a DD (Domestic Discipline) relationship. Jessica has spent the morning being sassy and disrespectful towards her husband Jonathon. This leads to a very embarrasing spanking while Beth and Zach are in the living room listening.

Beth is engaged to Zach and they go over to Jessica's for dinner. Beth has struggled to get Jessica to forgive her. It is a childish feud and all she wants is to have her sister back into her life. She has been trying to explain what really happened only to be faced with her sister's stubborn ears. After leaving Jessica's house, she has a conversation with Zach about DD.

This was an excellent story, it had smooth shifts from points of view. We were able to get inside each sister's head and know how they were feeling. I would highly recommend A Husband's Duty while there are elements of DD, there is also a strong emotional connection tying this story together.

a kinder, gentler feminism

Feminist takes on how women lost power usually have an angry edge. Carol Lee Flinders' book covers some of the same ground, but her point of view is reflective and spiritual. She believes, as many of us do, that we need the strengths of both men and women to make our world work, and that each of us needs the parts of ourselves that we might have suppressed because they weren't feminine, or masculine, enough.

This isn't a scientific treatise, and Flinders doesn't attempt to prove things so much as offer new ways of looking at where we are, and where we might go from here.
