Loved this book. Highly recommend it! Serve as Ex Director of a mega church with 6 locations. Book gave some great insight into things to consider as we look to expand our ministry impact. Before work in ministry and the non-profit world, owned a private company. This book wold have ben a very useful tool to have as we navigated challenging decision on new product introduction and company growth. A book any leader in an organization should have in their library. I have already purchased copies for several of my team members.

First time in a Startup? Please Read This - Irrespective of Your Role!

This book does not say a lot of new things about startups. It does not deal with very advanced subject matter either. In fact most of the book is about what could be considered as common-sense knowledge about startups. Still all those who are newly in a startup and those who aspire to be in a startup should read through this book: either you will learn the most basic things you need to know of to be effective in a startup or you will review some essential points to keep in mind to be effective in a startup.

While talking to those who are in startups or who are aspring to be in startups in the Silicon Valley, at times I run into some who lack the minimum knowledge of how a startup can succeed. I wish I could tell those people to go read this book!

As the title explicitly mentions this is a "science" book that explains some observed phenomena about a bunch of successful companies. It is not a book on engineering a successful startup with an itemized list of to-do's. Nevertheless this partially fills the minimal required knowledge for those who are either in a startup for the first time or aspiring to be in a startup. If you are one such, please read through this; don't frustrate your more experienced colleagues: in a startup no one has free time to teach anyone the ABC of business but this book can partially make up for that!

And, a concluding confession: I did find some significant NEW insights that I had neglected - despite not being a total newbie to startups; you might as well.

Blood, gore, violence... well, it's vikings what more could one expect?

It's an ok comic. Not much different than Northlanders in terms of story. Blood, gore, violence... well, it's vikings what more could one expect?

However the art is on a different scale. Beautifully painted, it engages the reader in. And the untypical oversized format is a plus.

A fun read, but nothing too special.

Hard-Boiled Vikings

Ivan Brandon and Nic Klein's Viking is a dark crime story set in the 9th century, about two brothers who pull off an ill-advised heist and get themselves in trouble they're not prepared to deal with.

The art is gorgeous. Klein's loose lines and exquisite colors set the scene in a way that pulls you directly into the world he's creating here. This is a straight-up gorgeous book, and I'm glad it's in a slightly oversized format to better show it off.

The story is hard-edged and exciting, but it gets overshadowed by the glorious art. There are a few rough scene transitions early on in the story that make it hard to understand what's going on, and a character changes sides near the end of the story in a way that seems a bit convenient and nonsensical, but these are minor gripes for what is a really fun graphic novel.

Check it out for the art and because we don't get to see stories like this very often in comics. Recommended.

Mediocre at best

Okay I don't read many graphic novels these days, but have been a longtime fan of works by Barry Smith, Frank Miller, Will Eisner, and many others. I picked this up on a whim at the library and thought it was dreadful. The art is occasionally interesting, with an oil / pastel look, but mostly it's just messy and confusing. In fact, I found the changing style was quite distracting to the story. Not only that, it is nearly impossible to differentiate the characters (except for bald/non-bald, male/female). The story has potential, but characters are not fully developed, and their decisions seem almost random. I think it was just to ambitious for the space allotted.
