great book for kids!

all of the williams sonoma kids cookbooks are awesome and this one does not disappoint! the recipes are super easy and delicious. it also includes breakfast lunch dinner and snacks as well as ideas for leftovers and other veriations of the recipes and even a "basics" recipe page at the end! love it love it love it

Okay, but not great. First recipe was a total failure.

My son opened on Christmas and made pancakes. The recipe called for 2 cups of milk to 1.5 cups of flour. I've made a lot of pancakes in my life - this seemed a bit off, but hey, it's Williams & Sonoma.

What a disaster! Runny, goopy, horrible mess. Clearly this is a misprint.

I may come back after some more recipes are attempted to revise this review.

On the positive side, the format of the book is nice and the instructions are good for a 10 year old.

My kids love this book

My 8.5 yr old daughter loves this book and has gotten her 11 yr old competitive brother interested in cooking as well. They have made many recipes from the book and most have come out great. I'm usually there to give her some assistance but she makes them on her own. The directions are pretty easy to follow and there are pictures of each recipe.

A wonderful inner journey

I read and worked through this book several years ago and found it very helpful for getting in touch with that person hidden deep inside. This book will help you clarify what the real you wants and needs and will also be helpful when you are making life decisions on which direction to go.
After a few years I've just picked this book off the shelf again. This is another way this book is so great, if you wait a while and work back through it, you'll be able to see how you have changed and find your new directions in life.

I do not believe it is necessary for a book to use 'big words' or long strung out descriptions in order for it to be helpful. Sometimes the simplest things are the best things. If you use this book with an open mind it will help you look inside yourself in ways so simple you would not have thought of them. I've read several self help and journaling books and this one is the best.

A book to return to again and again

I tried some of the exercises in this book years ago and found them really insightful. The art parts I skipped and focused on the writing exercises. Now I'm giving it another go and again it makes me think outside my usual box.

Some exercises use lists, some use word association, visualizing and a variety of techniques.

One exercise has you make a list of things you like about yourself. Then make a second list of things you would like to expand or strengthen. Then take one of the items and write out how you will actually do that in the coming week.

This is a good book to provide ways to explore some inner feelings and open up your thinking.

About the Author
Salma Hage, a Lebanese housewife from Mazarat Tiffah (Apple Hamlet) in the mountains of the Kadisha Valley in north Lebanon, has over 50 years experience of family cooking. She learnt to cook from her mother, mother-in-law and sisters-in-law, and, having helped bring up her nine brothers and two sisters, would often cook for the whole family. She has also spent many years working as a cook and currently shares her time between London and Lebanon.

Really enjoying this book!

Love, love, love this cookbook, Want to try all of the recipes. Enjoyed the personal stories of her life and learned a lot about MidEastern spices and how they are used. Already tried the Quinoa Tabbouleh and the Falafel which were excellent. She includes pictures so you can see what your dish is supposed to resemble.
Learning to combine fruit both dried and fresh into recipes that I never would have thought of. Yesterday I had the Minted Cucumber salad and added pomegranate seeds and pine nuts--really, really good.
I ordered another Middle Eastern Cookbook, The New Persian Kitchen which I would rate just OK. I will probably donate it to the library. This book had lots of meat recipes which are OK and you can substitute legumes, but not enough pictures so it was hard to visualize the dishes. As a newbie to Middle Eastern food I needed more of an explanation with pictures to make me curious to try the food.

Some of these terms and words can be confusing and if used out of context can be misleading and ultimately causing a waste of time and effort. The style of this publication is to present simple explanations and simple examples of the appropriate application of such terms and key words. This will benefit the reader and allow them to more fully understand, appreciate and more effectively apply these words in either their studies and/or in the workplace. Also included are some basic management tools and techniques such as S.W.O.T., P.E.S.T.L.E., the Loyalty Ladder, Blooms Ladder, etc. Knowledge and understanding of these tools and techniques will help the student and the reader to apply more effectively solutions to either case study scenarios or real work situations. Each word described will be followed with a Quiz question/exercise so the student can test their learning. Answers are provided at the rear of the book. With more and more students enrolling on Management based courses where the delivery language is English, but the student’s first language is not English, there is a risk that the connection is not made between some key words and terms and their effective application in both academic arenas and the workplace.
