Very Helpful

If you are interested in the historical development of theology, this is an excellent book. I would highly recommend going back to the original context of the quotes to make sure the quotes are not being taken out of context. However, I really enjoyed the amount of doctrines this book touches on. I will be referring to this book often. It touches on many of the doctrinal controversy's today such as Calvinism, dispensationalism, Catholicism, Cessation, Baptism, and many, many others.

I find myself generally agreeing with the author's views on most of the controversies/ doctrines that he touches on.

It is very important to understand the origins of the Calvinistic/ Reformed interpretation of scripture. These ideas started with Gnostic cults who mixed philosophy with the Bible, were picked up by Augustine later in life and were later developed by Calvin and his followers. This book demonstrates that these doctrines were not emphasized by the disciples of the apostles as being essential to the true gospel. The way the modern Calvinists teach on election, forknowledge, free will, and other doctrines finds its roots in the gnostic cults who thought they were elite groups with special knowledge.

My favorite quote in the book was this:

Papias AD 70-155

Fragment 6 - After the resurrection of the dead, Jesus will personally reign for one thousand years. I was taught this by the apostle John, himself.

When I went to search for this quote in the church Fathers I noticed that the phrase "I was taught this by the apostle John, himself." seems to be the interpretation of this author and not the actual quote. The orginal context seemed to be saying that Papias learned this from those who learned from the apostle John.

You must be careful with this work. Check out the quotes in the original sources if you are going to use them. However, this is a useful and valuable work.

Disappointing

I looked forward to reading this book, but ended up being disappointed in it. It is a compilation of snippets of quotes taken out of context to support the author's views. I have read writings of some of the early Church fathers and was hoping this book would provide further insight. My advice is to find the writings themselves (the internet and other books) and read them. The only reason I gave this book one star is because there is not an option of no stars.

many errors

I was very disappointed that a work of this type would contain so many errors. I would expect a more conscientious work by Dr. ken Johnson - given his bibliography. We do have a great body of writing by the apostles and other early church fathers that is available to us-anyone can go on-line and search them out. This book actually had very few quoted works; it reads more like a commentary without the proof. While this book has many lists of information that is helpful, the reader must be a dedicated researcher to discern fact from the fiction. The reader must also be very careful in regard to the author's list of 'real christian churches' (those who are trinitarians) and 'non-christian churches' (those who are non-trinitarians) or 'cults'. I found some major errors here also. Most church manuals or belief-systems can be easily found on-line and researched. I am very surprised that adequate research was not done for this book.

OMG. Finally someone tells the truth about what parents are up against. Author rambled sometimes and the book was pricey. Charts section was excellent. Packed with tips and ideas. Would recommend for special education parents.

useful guide on learning Chinese language

In my opinion, Chinese language is one of the hardest languages to learn. However, Henry Ray did a good job on this book as this makes the readers learn Chinese easily by first presenting the basics of Mandarin Chinese like the consonants and the pronunciation. The inclusion of sound clip could really help the reader learn the proper pronunciation. Then it also tackles on the counting and number as well as two ways to say number "two". There are also grammar, commonly used questions and answers and a lot more on Chinese language. Although the book says "Learn Chinese in 21 days", I don't think I can learn that so quickly but I found this very useful on learning the language.

This book aims to teach us the correct grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary and key phrases in everyday conversations. This is easy because it starts from the very basic then slowly moves up to parts of speech, word order and other unique features of Mandarin.
