Can't put it down, must read!

WOW! I've known Mr. Carruthers for years but I didn't know all of the methods he's deployed over the years. To read this is to finally have a real Blueprint of what to do to build your network marketing business and create massive Momentum and create multiple layers of success in your orgamization. Since I satarted reading it, I can't put it down. This is now one of the books I'll definitely recommend to my team and other network marketers.
This has also helped me refocus and eliminate some distractions

Brian Carruthers a Great Teacher/Leader....

I met Brian some years back when we were with the same company.. then recently I heard him on a call with Richard Brooke.. after the call I looked Brian up and called him... he answered his own phone which in itself is quite impressive..... We had a really nice chat. I ordered his book and could not wait for it to arrive... it happen to be the weekend so I took it with me too my cabin and what a joy it was to read... I found it so informative that I own a hard copy, which by the way is well highlighted/underlined through out the book as well as a kindle version so it is always with me.. Brian has a great concept of what it takes to build this wonderful business of Network Marketing and this book is generic so that it applies to a number of MLM businesses... I highly recommend it for anyone and it is now sits on my office desk along with my other personal go to library..

I appreciate the author's online links throughout the book. It is always good to have a recent source online that conincides with what is in a book. This way you know you are reading the most up-to-date information on the topics. Education is changing so rapidly that when most books meet the press the information is already outdated. Having online references throughout the book and not just in the reference sections, helps keep this book recent.

Intelligent and pragmatic

Well written text with many charts and sample forms that will prove very useful. This text has been nicely updated and aligned with ISLCC standards. Ideas were presented in a logical sequence. This is one of those textbooks that will go on the shelf for future reference.

There's no use having an ebook for a class when the book doesn't include page numbers! When assigned specific pages, they cannot be found.

A must have is traveling to Kauai

My husband and I went on our honeymoon to Kauai but couldn't rent a car or have enough money to take advantage of all the opportunities Kauai has to offer. A few years later we decided to go back and do everything we had missed on our first trip. This book was the perfect buy for our trip. We used this book in conjunction with, Kauai Trailblazer: Where to Hike, Snorkel, Bike, Paddle, Surf . These books helped us plan our entire trip down to the last detail. We were able to do more things and take advantage of what Kauai had to offer that we may have otherwise not known about without this book. The book gave us detailed directions to destinations they talked about in the book. We were able to visit several beaches it talked about and choose ideal snorkeling locations. It warned us of dangerous terrain and locations depending of the seasons.We were able to go on several hikes and explore hidden gems. I loved reading this book and learning more about Kauai and the culture and what this beautiful island has to offer. This book is a must for anyone traveling to Kauai.

Use with a grain of salt

How useful this guidebook is, depends on the type of traveler you are. I'm the kind that likes to know the highlights, but prefer to discover an area a little more organically. My intention was to avoid the tour-bus type of stuff, but I did want to snorkel, swim, hike & most importantly, eat great food. I found it a bit tedious to go through the book too, although the text is funny in parts.Explain to me again why we don't get a digital/searchable version when we purchase this?
I did find the "beaches" section quite useful & it was good to know what side of the island to visit depending on the time of the year, surf conditions etc. I didn't always agree with their beach ratings though - Tunnels was spectacular, but it's not a "real gem" according to the book. Hideaways was alright, but had too many screaming kids (a "real gem" according to the book), Poipu (a "real gem") was way too crowded & noisy, Secrets (another "real gem") was amazing.
As for hiking, I went on a very rewarding trail that I wouldn't have, if it were not for this book.
The dining section was not for me (the author marvels at the uniqueness of the word "tapas" at one point). If I went by the "ono" ratings, I'd never have found some of the most amazing food I've ever had. I do understand that it's hard to keep up this section.
If you're someone who likes to let the chips fall, I recommend using the book for stuff that needs planning (like a helicopter or sailing tour). Beyond that, I'd land on the island, speak to a few locals (who were very friendly) & let the experience guide itself.

Disappointed

We bought this book for our visit to Kauai just as we had for the other two Ultimate guidebooks that we purchased for the Big Island and Maui in past years. I don't think that it was as beneficial as the other books had been. This edition was nearly two years old and I had to do the research on their website to see which businesses and restaurants had gone our to business. I would say that the app, TripAdvisor was a better source than the book to find the best restaurants and attractions to visit. TripAdvisor was up to date with reviews that were just a day old. To do it over again, I wouldn't buy the book, just do research with TripAdvisor beforehand and get a cheap map. That's all you need.

Mindset in Motion

Jan Koum and Brian Acton are the founders of WhatsApp, the world’s most famous messaging app. Its mission is to “empower people through technology and communication, no matter who they are, or where they live.”

Their remarkable journey is a hallmark of courage, willpower, and relentless determination. In a Guardian newspaper interview, Acton describes the relationship as “yin and yang.” He says, “I’m the na�ve optimist, he’s more paranoid. I pay attention to bills and taxes, he [Koum] pays attention to our product.”

Koum was born in a rural village outside of Kiev, Ukraine. At the age of sixteen, during much political strife and instability, his family made the agonizing decision to flee their country and move to Mountain View, California. Koum’s father could not join them and was left behind. Koum told one interviewer, “I grew up in a society where everything you did was eavesdropped on, recorded, snitched on.” Koum’s difficult childhood experience under Soviet surveillance inspired the WhatsApp messaging service.

Koum and Acton are no strangers to failure and rejection. In summer 2009, Acton was looking for a job. For more than eleven years, the Stanford computer science graduate had been working at Yahoo, the social networking business, in various engineering roles.

Whatever you choose to believe, life is anything but predictable. Just five years later, in a miraculous twist of fate, Facebook bought WhatsApp for $19 billion.

To put the deal in perspective, at the time of purchase, the hotel chain Marriott International had over 120,000 staff, a twenty-two-year history, and a market cap of over $15.4 billion. WhatsApp has only fifty-five employees, although I hear they are hiring.

How did this unlikely pair become two of the most successful entrepreneurs on the planet? The answer: They had harnessed the leader’s mindset.

10X Thinking

Astro Teller is a British entrepreneur, scientist, and thinker who is widely credited as one of the pioneers of 10X thinking (10X). He heads up Google X, a futuristic lab responsible for hyper-ambitious projects such as Google Glass, balloon-powered Wi-Fi networks, and the infamous Google self-driving car. According to legend, his business card describes him as “Captain of Moon Shots.”

His story inspired me to embark on a journey to unlock the anatomy of a leader’s mindset at many of the world’s most exciting organizations, from young startups to global giants.

Along the way, I uncovered some surprising insights about how the smartest leaders, teams, and entrepreneurs think and what they do to inspire change and move forward. In an interview with Wired magazine, Teller explains the power of 10X thinking: “There are tests that you can apply to see if you’re thinking big enough. The easiest one, the mantra that we use at Google X, is ten times rather than ten percent better, you tend to work from where you are: if I ask you to make a car that goes 50 miles a gallon, you can just retool the engine you already have. But if I tell you it has to run on a gallon of gas for 500 miles, you’re going to have to start over. That causes you to approach the problem so differently that weirdly, counter-intuitively, it’s often easier to make something ten times better--because perspective-shifting is just that much more powerful than hard work and resources being thrown at problems via traditional, well-tried paths.”

Imagine leading your organization up to ten times better than you do today or increasing your team’s success tenfold. 10X thinking is the golden thread that links all great leaders and is at the core of the leader’s mindset.

My challenge had been set. I wanted to answer the question, “What if any anyone could apply the principles of 10X to their mindset, their team and their leadership?”
