A New Hope

I really did love this book and loved how the characters had grown into themselves. This book picks up right where book 1 leaves off and it flows and you do get to see the depth of the characters and how far they would go to protect each other. Karla discovers she has a Brother and she doesn't know what to think or how to feel but throughout the book her relationship with her Brother develops into a big sister little brother bond and I found myself missing my big brother. Karla finally gets adopted and has her life ahead of her. Her Brother and Sister come to live with her in the States and that makes Karla even happier.
The reasons I only gave it four stars is not because of the lack of story it was because of the few things I struggled it get through. First of I was 15-16 once and I thought my boyfriend at the time was the love of my life and wanted no one else, Karla and Conner's relationship was to intense and I feel is headed for a destruction because of the intensity of it. Second I know that sex is a huge issue with teenagers but I don't want my teenager reading a book that talks about teenagers doing it. I do love the fact that Karla can stand up for herself and can tell Conner how she feels about it, I felt the the only sensible one in this situation is Andrew because he tells Conner that he does not approve of them making that step but he is there for them if happens. The other thing is the relationship between Manuel and Callie, the age difference gets to me because she is 16 and he is 20, there is something wrong with that and I can't believe that her family and friends are okay with it. I really did enjoy this book and minus those few concerns I would recommend this book to anyone.

This book was a little better than the first. I'm glad that Karla found another brother Elliott, she finally ended up adopted and she is working on herself. She has the entire world behind her helping. Her aunt needed to be put in her place and never come to visit. She was just a hateful woman. What I didn't like about this story is Karla & Conner's "I Love You's" were too much. They are young teenagers and that statement was overdone. Callie & Manuel's relationship is too much since she's 16 and he's 20. I did enjoy this book though and am looking forward to reading book 3.

a great and clean read!

A New Hope is the second book in the Second Chance Series by Christina Escue. It will be released on March 28th. I had the privilege of reading this book very recently and I have to say, I like the story line to it and while we see the characters as more like children in the first book, you can definitely tell that they have grown up some in this book since many of them are facing challenges that have went from being accepted when they were younger to now having the challenges of deep relationships and whether to have sex or not since they are so young. This is a clean book so it does not condone teenage sex or anything and I like the outlook that the adoptive dad, Andrew, has on this issue in particular. Andrew tells his daughter's boyfriend, Connor, that he doesn't really approve of it but still wants them to be safe and that Connor can talk to him about whatever should he need to. This book has a few different stories in it though, the most prominent being the appearance of Karla, the adoptive daughter, welcoming her brother, Elliot into the family. After his grandmother dies, he comes to live with Karla and her family. It is a tough adjustment for him. He has dyslexia and has a really hard time reading. It shows his struggles in and out of school. My favorite though has to be the chemistry between Manuel and Callie. Manuel is Karla's brother and Callie is Connor's twin sister. The two of them have a kind of chemistry between them that is there from the moment Manuel shows up in the story, but he irks Callie to no end and she doesn't know what to do with her feelings. This is a good read! One definitely to check out when it is released!

Good How to Do Books

I have used earlier versions of this book throughout my professional life. It is a handy quick reference for the more advanced practitioner who wants to explore techniques that they have not used before. Or, to refresh one's memory on techniques that have not been used for awhile. This book is also very useful for training junior practitioners in multivariate techniques. There is enough detail to satisfy those asking more detailed questions about techniques without overwelming those less inclined to pore over mathematical formula. Steps and tests are well laid out, with enough discussion so that the reader understands the value and importance of working through the standard routines and assumption checks. It also offers important pratical steps in how to design and run specific statistical procedures in the common statistical packages.
Given the increasingly user-friendly statistical software on the market, this book offers a quick antidote for the rising number of button pushers, by showing budding statisticians the implications of using a technique ignorantly. This is done without making the technique inscrutable to the reader.
While the new edition offers some additional information - the cost conscious buyer could easily find considerable value in older editions.

One one of the best applied stat. books ever, excellent!

Many statistical books, particularly multivariate ones,are, - let's face it- boring, heavy-going and ugly. Formulae are used as if to terrify and frighten, not to illustrate or show, and textual passages are all too often chock full of outright fibs such as 'it will be clear that', or, 'the reader will see that' or - a sure sign that something truly monstrous is to follow - 'it is obvious that'. Not so Tabachnick and Fidell's great book. Everything is clear and well set-out, with lots of real examples. Unlike many textbooks, it does not assume that you got your data out of a textbook, it shows how to analyze real data, how to check statistical assumptions and what to do about violations of those assumptions. Although some of the information on statistical packages may now be a little dated, the program inputs and outputs are supplied, as are written-up reports of the results, similar to how they would appear in a socio-behavioral journal. I've been using the various three editions of this truly wonderful book since 1985 and think it should be on the desk of every professional, aspiring or sometime data analyst or statistician!

This is a very nicely written and popular text on applied multivariate analysis. It does not provide theory but teaches how to use and interpret results from software packages. It has a good set of examples.

The perfect resource for anyone new with the steel industry

I just started working fora steel fabricator and one of the first things they had me do was read this book. Coming from having no experience in the steel industry, this book has been such a great resource for me.This book really helped me build a foundation on the basics that I have been able to apply in my position.

This is a must read for any student or rookie in the steel industry!

It's a good book, and a decent value. However, It is definitely written for the novice estimator. I was hoping for something a little bit more advanced, because it spent a lot of time covering things that most people with construction experience will already know. Nonetheless, this book offers some good information and a solid foundation for beginners. Also, I was hoping for some topics on estimating field work, but this book really focused almost exclusively on shop fabrication. All-in-all a worthwhile purchase.

A Must Have For Any Steel Fabricator!

For a longtime this book was needed by the steel fabrication industry! Written so anyone can understand, it is perfect for both entry level and the experienced "Old Hand". I haven't found another book that comes close to this one in breaking down all aspects (e.g. estimating, detailing, project management and more) of steel fabrication. As an owner of a steel fabrication shop, it is my recommendation that this book be in the reference library of every steel fabrication shop!

Therapists library must have!

I'm usually skeptical about relationship books but I decided to give this one a try. Glad I did! The only regret I have with this book is that it was not written sooner. The author covered all subject matters with respect to relationships and finding the "One" and shared even food-for-thoughts in terms of tips I wouldn't have thought of in my quest and dating life. Obviously, there is no formula for finding that perfect someone and she alluded to the fact that sometimes we may need to fix ourselves before we get it right so I felt encouraged and closed the last chapter with takeaways for a better relationship with myself as well. An excellent writer gets the points across with clarity, practicality and honesty keeping the foundation of spirituality at hand without being overbearing. Plan on reading it again.

I just came back from my parents’ 50th wedding anniversary celebration in Connecticut and, as today is my day off from work, I started to read your book this morning. I was unable to put it down. In fact, I finished it in one day. Thank you for sharing it with me.

As I told you, I purchased an additional copy for my father, which I gave to him last week. I will follow up with him on his thoughts and highly recommend that he share this book with both the single women as well as the single men in the six churches that he oversees in Connecticut.
